Is Purina Kitten Chow really the best kitten food? I asked a lot of people and almost…
There are many things to say about diet and we could write pages and pages about it. First, I feel it is important to look at any diet as a whole and not just look at one part of it. We can all tend to get focused on one detail and not look at the bigger picture. It's important any diet is balanced to contain all the vitamins and nutrients a cat or kitten may need. It's important it tastes good so the kittens or cats will eat it. It's important it's prepared so it doesn't spoil. Some people get concerned about by-products but I try to think of it from the cat's perspective. When a cat catches a mouse, they eat the whole thing. Cats don't chose to just eat a mouse or bird's muscle. They eat the bones and the organs too because their bodies know they need some of those ingredients for their bodies building blocks. So to just think about a diet in regards to by-products is not ideal. For example, a diet may not have by-products but may not contain enough taurine..which is vitally important for a cat's heart. Does that make sense?
I personally feel, the dry vs. wet decision is a personal one. There are pros and cons with each one, often based on convenience and cost. The way you are feeding your kitten sounds just fine to me and if your kitten is doing well I wouldn't change a thing!
